The TANK during fall

Discover an acoustical marvel unlike any other on Earth: the TANK Center for Sonic Arts.

This towering 60-foot-tall, 30-foot-wide rusted steel water tank—never used for its original purpose—was rediscovered in 1976 by sound artist and sonic innovator Bruce Odland. Hidden in the rugged dirt hills just outside Rangely, Colorado, amid oil pumps and dirt bike trails, the Tank's extraordinary acoustics create a shifting, swirling reverberation longer and richer than the Taj Mahal or the Great Pyramid.

What began as a secret haven for a dedicated group of musicians has evolved into a world-class sonic laboratory and performance space. The profound beauty of its natural reverb contrasts beautifully with the tank's simple, industrial exterior and remote high-desert setting—offering a truly senses-altering experience that lingers long after you leave.

In 2012, when the Tank faced being sold for scrap, supporters formed a nonprofit (now the TANK Center for Sonic Arts, Inc.) and launched successful Kickstarter campaigns to preserve and protect this unique resource. Today, it thrives as a transformative venue for musicians, sound artists, educators, and the Rangely community—hosting recordings, residencies, concerts, open houses, and educational programs.

Whether you're a professional artist seeking unparalleled acoustics, a local looking to explore sound in a new way, or a curious visitor ready to listen differently, the TANK invites you to step inside and experience sonic wonder.
