Hunting in Rangely

Lisa's Elk

Northwest Colorado is home to the largest elk population in the world.  Our area is famous for its extraordinary elk, mule deer and antelope hunting. Within 5 to 10 miles outside of Rangely you will find top notch trophy hunting grounds.

Hunting plays a major part in the economy in all of Colorado but in particular in Northwest Colorado. The region attracts approximately 28,000 hunters annually.

During hunting season all legal methods of hunting may be used. Much of this is public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW). Licenses for deer and elk in prime hunting locations are awarded by a lottery system. Resident and non-resident hunters alike must apply for deer tags and the area you wish to hunt must be specified.

Information on hunting in our region can be found at the Colorado Parks and Wildlife site

Learn To Hunt

Colorado law requires that anyone born on or after January 1, 1949 complete an approved hunter education course before applying for or buying a Colorado hunting license. Colorado Parks and Wildlife Hunter Education Courses, led by certified volunteer hunter education instructors and/or CPW staff, are offered throughout the state year-round.  Below is a link for additional information.
