At the Rangely Police Department, every officer and communication specialist receives advanced, specialized training to serve our community at the highest professional standard. This ongoing education ensures our team is well-equipped to handle a wide range of situations with skill, confidence, and care. Training includes, but is not limited to:
- Level I Traffic Accident Investigation
- Basic and Advanced Drug Investigation Techniques
- Criminal Interdiction
- Advanced DUI Detection
- Advanced Crime Scene Processing
- Advanced Interview Training
Career advancement is encouraged and recognized through the Department's Step Program. Officers and specialists may progress in both title and responsibility, as indicated by stripes on their uniform sleeves—ranging from none to three stripes (with the exception of the Patrol Lieutenant and Chief of Police). These stripes reflect the level of specialized training and proficiency achieved within the program, as well as the individual's current title and status within the agency.
In addition to sleeve stripes, employees may wear a function badge on their shirt or uniform, typically positioned above the nameplate. Unlike stripes, function badges signify mastery in specific skilled areas. To maintain these designations, personnel must demonstrate continued proficiency through bi-annual written tests and practical evaluation exercises.
The Rangely Police Department also collaborates with other law enforcement agencies in the 9th Judicial District to form a dedicated Critical Incident Team. This impartial, multi-agency team investigates officer-involved incidents efficiently and thoroughly, preserving resources while ensuring transparency and accountability.
