Public Health: Rio Blanco County Nursing Service
Our Mission
The mission of Rio Blanco County Nursing Service is to protect, promote, and enhance the health and well-being of all people and the environment in Rio Blanco County. As the dedicated public health agency serving all of Rio Blanco County and surrounding areas, we fulfill society's interest in assuring conditions in which people can be healthy. Drawing from the landmark 1988 Institute of Medicine report, The Future of Public Health, our work focuses on organized community efforts—applying scientific and technical knowledge to prevent disease, promote health, and create environments where everyone can thrive.
Core Functions of Public Health
They deliver three essential core functions:
- Assessment — Regularly and systematically collecting, analyzing, and sharing information about the health status of our community.
- Assurance — Ensuring necessary services are available to everyone—by partnering with others to provide them or delivering them directly when needed.
- Policy Development — Advocating for rules, laws, and policies that safeguard and advance the health interests of the entire community.

Their team provides these vital services to support community health and environmental protection:
- Monitor health status and identify community health problems (including environmental factors).
- Mobilize community partnerships to address identified health issues.
- Develop policies and plans that support and protect community and environmental health.
- Enforce laws and regulations that protect public health and the environment.
- Link people to needed personal health services and assure access to care.
- Prevent and control the spread of communicable diseases.
- Promote positive health behaviors and healthy environmental practices.
