Water Skiing at Kenney Reservoir

Boating & Water Sports Surrounding Rangely

Water sports offer the perfect way to enjoy Rangely's sunny days and create unforgettable memories—whether you're powering across the water in a boat, sailing gracefully, paddling a canoe or kayak, stand-up paddleboarding, or simply diving in for a refreshing swim. Just a short drive east of town, Kenney Reservoir delivers fantastic flat-water fun for everyone!

The marina, situated on the east side of the reservoir, provides easy access with a convenient concrete boat ramp and durable fiberglass docks for smooth launching and docking. Boaters, skiers, and paddlers: Stay alert—floating logs, debris, and shallow spots can appear unexpectedly, so keep a sharp lookout for any submerged or partially submerged objects to ensure a safe outing.

The Colorado Boating Safety Program helps promote responsible vessel operation and maximizes enjoyment for all on the water. Always follow state and local rules to keep the experience fun and secure for you, your group, and fellow visitors.

Key Rules and Regulations at Kenney Reservoir:

  • Every boat must carry U.S. Coast Guard-approved personal flotation devices (PFDs/life jackets) for each person on board—readily accessible and properly fitted for the wearer.
  • Any onboard toilet facilities must be self-contained and sealed—no discharge permitted.
  • Vessels towing water skiers, wakeboarders, tubers, or similar must have an additional observer on board (in addition to the operator).
  • A red or orange 12" x 12" "skier-down" flag must be prominently displayed when a skier or towed participant is in the water.
  • Skiers must proceed counterclockwise and remain mindful of other water users, vessels, and conditions.
  • Jet skis (personal watercraft) and all other vessels must follow Colorado boating laws and operate safely and courteously.
  • Boating passes are required: Day passes are $10; annual passes are $60 (available through the Rio Blanco Water Conservancy District—call or visit their office for details).

For the most up-to-date information on passes, fees, additional regulations, or current reservoir conditions, contact the Rio Blanco Water Conservancy District directly or visit their website.

Come soak up the sun, embrace the water, and experience the welcoming community spirit at Kenney Reservoir—one of Rangely's top spots for adventure, relaxation, and family fun. Stay safe, play responsibly, and we look forward to seeing you out on the water!
